When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing that you do? For myself and most of the people that I know, the answer is check my cell phone. It seems that most of us only get on a desktop or laptop computer when we get to the office. With so much web traffic coming from mobile devices, it’s definitely important to check how your website looks and functions on cell phones and tablets of all sizes.
Sometimes a website will look great on both desktop and mobile versions. Sometimes, the mobile version is practically unusable. With e-commerce websites in particular, where frustration will quickly turn a potential customer away, the user experience on mobile devices needs to be properly optimized. If you’re creating a brand new website, it would be best to plan for and launch both the desktop and mobile websites together. That’s not to say that if you already have your website live, you can’t add the mobile version now as well. If budget is a factor, money can be saved by limiting the mobile version to the most essential features and functions. Ideally, the content of the mobile version should not stray too far from the full version.
